I won't lie, this made me emotional

What 30 hours in Corfu reminded me of...
Read time: 4 minutes
I'm writing this from the ferry terminal in Corfu, feeling extremely grateful for the career path that I've chosen.
I'll not lie, there have been countless times over the last 10 years, more than I could count, and I can count to at least 500 ๐,
I've questioned my choice of job and whether I'd be better off doing some corporate gig with a safe income instead.
But on Sunday night, I was reminded why it's no longer a question.
Two of my clients just so happened to be visiting Corfu for one night with a family friend, on the very same day that I was going as well. They're husband and wife, and I've been coaching them for the last 4 years.
We met up for dinner, had great conversations over some nice wine, and just as we were about to say our goodbyes, the story of how Forbes (the husband) started with me was shared.
I had heard ramblings of it previously, but it's never been shared as the main talking point, so I was equally keen to hear it.
I don't know if either of them read this newsletter, but I know they won't mind me sharing it with you.
And this is how it goes...
Four years ago, one of my very good clients (who was wearing a singlet vest) was coming back from walking his dog when he bumped into his neighbours (couple mentioned).
Forbes was amazed at how well my client looked and asked him how he managed to achieve these results.
"By working out religiously with a great trainer."
Anyway, days later, they were all having a drink in one of their houses, when the topic of discussion changed to Forbes' impending knee surgery.
He had suffered from terrible knee pain for years, and with no approaches working, the knee specialist told them the only solution was surgery.
A total knee replacement before the age of 60!
My client immediately interjected and was adamant that they get in touch "with my trainer Mark Gray and give him a try before surgery, he's a magician".
He went on to explain how I had helped him overcome a troublesome knee and shoulder issue during lockdown.
He hands over my details, and the rest is history.
Fast forward four years, and we're sitting on a Greek island, drinking some wine, with knee surgery a distant memory.
It literally couldn't be further from that at the moment.
He's running several times per week, hiking, squatting, lunging, horse riding, you name it. The man now has bulletproof knees, and he did that in his 60s!
Now, this email is more in line with the ones I'll send on a Sunday, but I thought this would make a great newsletter.
Why?
This story is the perfect example of what dedication to strength training can do for your life.
If you give it a chance, it can and will change your life! I''ve seen it countless times before and I'll see it countless times again.
I will NEVER shut up about the life-changing impact of strength training.
It's changed my life. It's changed Forbes life...
And it can change YOUR LIFE!
Imagine if they hadn't bumped into each other out on the street.
What if the dog had run off, or they had left their phone in the house and had to run back?
We wouldn't have had dinner last night, and Forbes would have a titanium knee!
And his life would be exponentially worse because of it. Yes, he would have seen improvements, but that's the best-case scenario, and we know that surgery is a toss of the coin at times.
He probably wouldn't be running or hiking up the mountains with his kids.
The very fact that a highly educated surgeon was happy to cut him open is scary!
Like man, that sh*t makes me both scared and angry at the same time.
But it's all hypothetical, and life turned out great.
But my main message with this story and newsletter is one of belief and courage.
No matter where you find yourself with your health.
Whether you're 50 pounds overweight, battling with chronic back pain, or scared to step foot in the gym,
You need to keep believing that things will get better.
But in order for things to get better, you need to have the courage to act.
Reach out for help. Act despite fear. Believe when you want to quit.
I've coached 100s of people, and the biggest success stories all share these two traits.
They've also gotten me through those tough times I mentioned earlier when I wanted to throw in the towel and take the 'easy' route with life.
Feck that sh*t!
I'm not going to pitch you my coaching, but if you ever feel like a chat, you know where to find me.
Have a great week.
Mark
Oh, and before I go. Check out the dessert I ordered last night. A chocolate-filled, pistachio-covered calzone. I thought it was going to be a regular-sized dessert, but it was a full-on main course! The waiter laughed when he brought it out and noticed it was just for me. The 3 of them were sharing a dessert by the way and did help me a little with mine ๐ In my defence, I did do 28k steps yesterday #balance
Look at the f*cking size of that! ๐๐

If you had told me when I woke up on January 1st with a rough hangover in the south of England that in April you'd be writing your newsletter from an apartment on the south coast of Albania, I'd have told you to go get your medication checked ๐ But eh, life is a box of surprises! It's me again ๐ Read time: 3 minutes Hello, you wonderful person! I know you missed me last week, but I was busy in the French Alps partying for 4 days, followed by 3 days in the Italian Alps snowboarding. Let me give you a brief overview of how the last couple of weeks have gone: I packed up all of my stuff and left Barcelona 2 weeks ago. Flew to Lyon airport, met two friends, rented a car, and drove to Alpe d'Huez for a 4-day festival in the mountains called Tomorrowland Winter. Drank some...
