Last Wednesday, a client shared a story that perfectly sums up why so many entrepreneurs feel like they are constantly running on fumes.
He said...
“Mark, I don’t feel stressed, but I feel absolutely wrecked.”
As far as lines go, it's an absolute classic.
People imagine stress as pacing around a room or screaming into a pillow, but the most dangerous form is the silent one. The type you've learned to live with. The type you’ve normalised because it's been part of your life for so damn long.
It's the slow drip.
The constant notifications.
The not-so-quiet pressure.
The deadlines that never seem to disappear.
The brain that refuses to switch off at night because it's already planning tomorrow.
And this type of stress does one thing exceptionally well...
Destroying performance!
It comes in like a wrecking ball, leaving broken bones and dreams in its wake.
So while you might be trying your best to remain calm on the outside, on the inside, you're more fragile than ever.
Your sleep gets lighter.
Your recovery gets worse.
You find yourself snapping at stupid things you would normally brush off.
(bad news for any husband, wife, or child in sight)
Not to mention that your training sessions feel heavier.
Your focus becomes foggy.
And your appetite swings between starving and not hungry at all. And when you are hungry, oh boy, are you hungry for all the 'wrong' things.
This is stress doing its nasty work behind the scenes, and unfortunately for most people, they have no idea it's happening.
Oh, and let's not forget that stress spikes your cortisol levels, increases inflammation, disrupts blood sugar, wrecks sleep, and over time, makes fat loss much harder.
All of this terrible news about stress brings me to something important ⤵
Stress management is not a luxury. It's a performance tool.
When you have your stress under control:
Your muscles recover faster.
Your sleep improves.
Your irritability drops.
Your thinking becomes clearer.
Your energy becomes consistent.
To put it bluntly, your life gets a sh*t ton better!
Soooo, now that we're crystal clear on how important effective stress management is, how about I give you the lowdown on one of the hottest stress management supplements around and one you've undoubtedly heard of....
Ashwagandha
A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis wanted to answer the following question:
Q: Does Ashwagandha supplementation have a beneficial effect on the management of anxiety and stress?
After going through twelve randomised controlled trials, with over one thousand adults, they came to the conclusion that...
Ashwagandha was found to be effective at significantly reducing both stress and anxiety, with doses of 600mg per day being near-optimal for both outcomes.
Well, isn't that some sexy news to read on a November Tuesday?
We've all heard that Ashwagandha is supposed to be good for stress, but we've also heard that pooping in your hands and clapping is bad for you. But where's the actual proof??? 😂
Just to note, I don't think we need much scientific proof to know that pooping in your hands and clapping is bad for you, but hopefully you get my point.
The findings were unambiguous.
(I have no idea where that word has just come from; that's a first for me)
Ashwagandha significantly reduced anxiety and significantly reduced stress across the studies, with the strongest effects seen at six hundred milligrams per day. Even more interesting, lower doses between three hundred and five hundred milligrams were effective for stress specifically, while anxiety improvements continued to climb on higher doses.
Now, let's get this straight. Does this mean it's some sort of stress-busting miracle herb?
Hell no!
But does it deserve a place inside a stress management protocol like the one my client now has?
Abso-bloody-lutely!
Think of Ashwagandha as the supporting actor.
Useful, steady, reliable, and certainly worth some plaudits.
Just look at Brad Pitt in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".
But the main performance comes from your:
✅ Sleep
✅ Training
✅ Habits
✅ Nutrition
✅ Time management
Stress is not something you wait to fix.
Because the longer you leave it, the louder the consequences get.
Build your protocol now so you're not left up shits creek without a paddle.
Just like my client and the countless others who have come through my coaching doors, you'll finally feel like your foot is off the gas pedal for the first time in years.
